Surgical Technique

Surgical breast reduction is an outpatient process conducted with the patient under general anesthesia. The timing of surgery depends on many factors, including the complexity of the incision, the general reduction technique, and, finally, how much reduction is required. The areola and nipple area repositioning is also a factor. For most patients, liposuction is incorporated for fat and tissue elimination to reduce the breast size. All of these aspects are addressed during the private consultation with Dr. Walters. The potential for scarring is also scrupulously examined and discussed as it is likely to occur. However, surgical skill and advanced techniques have led to a noticeable reduction in the visibility of scarring. Based on the intricacy of the size and overall reduction, either an inverted-T or a straight line (vertical) incision will be incorporated. Breast fat and tissue will then be removed, and the existing skin and tissue will be pulled tight and secured.

Post-Op Experience

Our care for you continues long after you leave the office. Your recovery experience includes:

  • 24/7 Follow-Up Care: Dr. Walters will call to check on you after surgery. You will also have his personal cell phone number to reach him at any time.
  • Lymphatic Massage: We will refer you to a local massage therapist for a manual lymphatic drainage protocol starting 1 to 3 days after surgery.
  • Post-Op Garments: We will send you home with any post-surgical garments you need.
  • Scar Therapy: We offer scar gel, scar sheeting, and laser treatments to reduce visible scarring.
  • Accommodations & Transportation: We work with certified nurses in the area to provide transportation and overnight care services, if needed.
  • Guidance & Support: Your helpful patient care coordinator and surgical nurse will educate and advise you each step of the way.

What To Expect

Once surgery has been completed, you will be monitored closely in our comfortable recovery facility and then discharged home to begin the healing process. A small, tube-like draining device is usually inserted near the incision area to reduce bleeding and swelling. A compression bra will be put in place for a few days that will boost blood circulation to the breasts during the immediate recovery. In a month or so, the breasts will position themselves and settle, and the post-surgery effects will dissipate. The vast majority of our patients say they feel more weightless, lighter, and more reassured. Following surgical breast reduction, you can enjoy the clothes you could not wear before and feel enthusiastic about your new appearance. Keep in mind that it is important to maintain a healthy body weight so the outcomes are not affected negatively.

Dr. Walters is AMAZING! I have been wanting a breast reduction for years, but I had fear of the recovery process. After browsing for my months I finally gained the courage and set a consult with Dr.Walters. Walking in the office, (that is completely beautiful btw), the receptionist were so welcoming, instantly my nerves went away. When Dr. Walters came in he went straight to the point asking me questions about what exactly am I looking for. He listened to my goal, and he ensured me that he can fulfill my expectations. Well fast forward Dr. Walter surpassed my expectations. The procedure went smoothly, I was home by afternoon. I was extremely apprehensive going in because even after reading all of the reviews there is always that uncertainty of how it will feel. How will I look and will I regret it?
