When you are bothered by how your skin appears because of dark spots, sun damage, or fine lines, Dr. Jules Walters can perform a skin consultation at our New Orleans or Metairie, LA office to determine if you could benefit from IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy. A photofacial with IPL is a treatment that rejuvenates the skin for adults with hyperpigmentation or wrinkle problems on their neck and face. A photofacial may be a noninvasive process; however, it can be highly effective and create amazing outcomes. At Walters Plastic Surgery, we use intense pulses of light energy that warm the skin cells to set off the natural healing process and increase the production of collagen. As the added nutrients take effect, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with an improved tone and decreased spots of pigmentation.
An IPL photofacial reaches the deeper layers of your skin to treat several complexion blemishes (particularly brown lesions and sun spots) with minimal or no recovery needed. Ideal candidates for an IPL photofacial at our practice will have several problems with their complexion, such as rosacea, sun damage, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), rough texture, wrinkles, visible pores, redness, freckles, sun and age spots, or spider veins. Dr. Jules Walters will examine your complexion to determine if you will benefit from an IPL photofacial during your initial consultation.
"I had Sublative, Fraxel and Clear & Brillant lasers done here. I previously had 5 IPLs, 5 Laser Genesis and 2 ExcelV Lasers at other places. I saw more results with the 1 single Fraxel for my very stubborn pigmentation then doing all those other lasers. I greatly appreciate the honesty here. I wanted MicroNeedling for my texture/tone but I have a problematic skin condition and they would not allow me do it where other clinics gladly would have. They recommended Sublative i..."- Anonymous / Healthgrades / Mar 22, 2018

"After consulting with multiple plastic surgeons, I chose Dr. Walters as my surgeon for many reasons. Dr. Walters was the only doctor who recommended the most modern, state of the art procedure for my breast reconstruction after my prophylactic double mastectomy. He patiently pursued privileges to work at St. Tammany Parish Hospital so that he could work alongside my breast surgeon. Throughout the entire process, he took great care to clearly communicate with me and to make sure that I fully understood all my options and what to expect while recovering. Although my surgery was prophylactic in nature, he took care to perfect my breasts as if was a cosmetic case. I have no visible scars, and my breasts look natural and beautiful. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Walters displayed authentic concern for my recovery, such to the extent that he called me multiple times to check on my progress. Additionally, he shared his cell phone number with me, which is exceptional for most doctors. Dr. Walters exceeded my expectations in all areas, and I would recommend him without hesitation! On a side note, during each of my procedures, each and every nurse who cared for me during my hospital stays explained they had never seen a doctor so incredibly meticulous in his work. Each claimed Dr. Walters would be their surgeon of choice. Dr. Walters staff were just as wonderful to work with. Throughout the entire experience, Dr. Walters and his staff were not only professional, but each cared for my happiness and well-being. If you or anyone you know is looking for a surgeon, I encourage you to visit with Dr. Walters. I am so happy I did!"- N.B. / Google / Nov 09, 2019
Plan Your Procedure
A photofacial is done at our New Orleans or Metairie, LA office in around 20 – 30 minutes in one of our minor procedure rooms if no other treatments are performed. To prepare for the photofacial, your technician will wash and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with shields. The photofacial is performed with a handheld wand containing the elos laser by Syneron Candela that will pass over the skin while emitting energy pulses. While many patients may have mild discomfort throughout the photofacial, it's usually bearable given the quick treatment length.
What to Expect
There usually is no recovery period needed with a photofacial treatment, but you may leave our office with your complexion a little inflamed and red. This will go away naturally in about a day — it may be masked with cosmetics if you prefer. Dr. Jules Walters recommends you use a cream on the skin to minimize any irritation and promote healing. It may also help to use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine to ease swelling. After 2 – 5 days, the irregularities under the skin will rise to the surface skin layers and then start to flake away. It is critical to protect your skin with sunscreen as often as possible after a photofacial treatment and to not pick at your skin while it heals. While you will have visible improvements after your first treatment, your complexion will attain ideal results through multiple photofacial treatments. Dr. Jules Walters suggests most patients get 3 – 6 sessions scheduled monthly.
